Bukittinggi and Jam Gadang
Bukittinggi is one prominent city in Indonesia. It is located in the high land of West Sumatra Province. Jam Gadang is a land mark of this city. Jam Gadang is the icon of this city, people or tourists come to Bukittiggi mostly to visit Jam Gadang first. Indonesian know that Jam Gadang is a kind of big tower of clock. Other city in Indonesia or in other country also has that kind of tower. But Jam Gadang seems has a special things that alway to attract people coming to see it again and next after.
Why people come to Jam Gadang. Jam Gadang it’s self situated at the high landed-central park of Bukittinggi. When you are standing around Jam Gadang, you’ll see beautiful green views surrounding the city, Bukittinggi. Merapi mount is the most scenary, very clear to see from Jam Gadang. You can see many villages and plantation laid around the feed of Merapi mount. The views are green and fresh in the eyes.
Coming to Bukittinggi is not only to see the Jam Gadang. There are a lot of things to do in Bukittinggi. Shopping in one thing most important you can do in this city. To do Shopping is not difficult there. At the time you arrive at Jam Gadang, there you’ll see the Pasar Ateh, central market, close from you. Just take a walk from Jam Gadang to get the market.
In Pasar Ateh, market, people find many kiosks sell souvenirs. Hand made product and fabricant are available there. There are many kiosks at the ground level of Pasar Ateh sell accessories, silver jewellery product are easy to find in Pasar Ateh, earings, bracelet, neckless and ring are sell at the kiosk. Price is one thing to be considered, those products may be cheap and may expensive, depend on it’s quality and specification.
For clothes products, and the specific hand made clothes products like songket, baju kurung, veil or shawl you may find them at second storey of Pasar Ateh buliding. There are a lot of traditional Minangkabau clothes sell in that market. In my opinion, you have to try purchase one item of the cloth, why, because all the traditional clothes product in Pasar Ateh are very special, very unique, most of them are hand made, worked by traditional people who live in Bukittinggi and from other nearby places around the city.
